Horses

Small but tireless, high-spirited but tractable, ungainly but fast, Arabian horses have been in keen demand for ages. Carthagians, Romans and Byzantines appreciated horses which were particularly suited to dry, rough terrain. Magnificient mosaics in Tunisia museums prove it. Tunisian horses may have been adopted by the first Muslims who settled in Africa and they may have been ridden to Spain.

Arab, Barbary and Arab-Barbary horses are now bred in Tunisia and many hotels have riding centers. Some centers which are affiliated members of the Tunisian Federation of Equestrian Sport also receive foreign vacationers.
