The Islamic month of fasting, feasting, light and music.....

At the sight of the crescent moon which marks the first day of the lunar month of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a fast from sunrise to sunset.

Ramadan in Tunisia lets you experience Islamic culture from its first century right up to the dynamic modern present.

According to the Calendar Year, Ramadan takes place, every year, approximately 10 days earlier than during the previous one. A fact which makes its arrival an expected and long waited for event. Its nights turn into day, filled up with light, music and celebration. Spend your evenings roaming the narrow streets of the Medina of Tunis, which was founded in the Seventh Century AD.

The annual Festival of the Medina brings you into intimate contact with the culture of contemporary Islam. You have a multi options choice.

Listen to a traditional Tunisian songs in the dazzling tiled courtyard of an 18th century house. Hear a troupe of traditional musicians in an historic medersa, or Islamic school. Attend a musical gathering of Sufi devotees at the Sidi Mahrez mausoleum. Or enjoy theater and dance in the Municipal Theatre, whose 1902 charm has been lovingly preserved.

...and offers an opportunity to celebrate.

A wealth of culinary specialities appears in the month of Ramadan. International travelers are welcome to join Iftar meals, the Tunisian fast break at the end of the day: you are also free to observe normal meal times in hotels and many restaurants.
